TOP 5 SUMMER EVENTS & FESTIVALS ON DALMATIAN ISLANDS

GRAFFITI NA GRADELE (Brač, Bol)

Graffiti na gradele is a slightly different summer festival. In July, during the festival, Bol becomes a favorite destination for young artists and all those eager for fun. The scent of spray, paint and great entertainment mixes with the impressive scent of the sea, salt, and pine forest. Except for graffiti drawing workshops, visitors can enjoy a number of other activities such as street basketball, dance battles, unique water jumping competitions, and much more. To keep up the great spirit during the festival, the island of Brač every year welcomes world-famous DJs and musicians who enhance and complete the concept of the festival.

HVAR SUMMER FESTIVAL

Hvar Summer Fest is one of the oldest summer festivals on the Adriatic coast and islands where special attention is paid to the preservation of Croatian heritage. Organized by the Town of Hvar, this festival has a long tradition of offering exceptional cultural events, particularly music performances, for which it has been recognized both locally and internationally. The Festival typically lasts from June 1st to September 28th and includes performances in nearby villages Velo Grablje and Malo Grablje. In the mentioned period, the island of Hvar shows renowned classical musicians and young professionals, from Croatia and abroad, while an important part of the program also consists of performances by UNESCO-protected and promoted Dalmatian klapa singing.

KORKYRA BAROQUE FESTIVAL

Baroque festival on Korčula island is a highly profiled cultural event founded in 2012 with the purpose of promoting local and international musical and cultural heritage. It is organized in the first half of September and lasts about ten days. The opening ceremony usually starts with Moreška – a battle dance with swords characterized by a short dramatic action that recreates a story of the battle between the Red King and the Black King. During the festival, the streets of Korcula evoke the past times and become the host for the most prestigious domestic and world-famous ensembles and soloists, specialists in baroque music. The concerts thus promote the fascinating churches as cultural monuments, but also the island of Korcula as a whole as a unique architectural complex.

GOULASH DISCO FESTIVAL (KOMIŽA)

Goulash Disko Festival is the first Croatian crowdfunding festival. It was created by the idea of Yves Taquet, a Belgian living in Croatia, to organize a unique event on a beach in the middle of the Adriatic sea and there was no better place than the authentic Komiža island that has it all – remoteness, crystal clear water, pine forest to set up the tents, palm trees, and most importantly great sound system. Goulash Disco Nights are held in Dublin, Zagreb, Bristol, and Berlin, and since 2013 it takes place in Komiža as well. The island edition of the festival is organized every year in September to celebrate music from the Global Underground. Besides music, performers and workshops of different kinds will spice up the program during the whole festival.
