It is at 45 minutes speedboat distance from Dubrovnik towards the island of Korčula, passing by the Elaphite Islands. On the western part of Mljet you will find the National Park Mljet which takes up almost one-third of the island. It is the oldest marine protected wildlife reservation which makes the island another perfect place to visit by boat. The greatest peculiarity of the National Park consists of its two salt-water lakes: the Great and Small Lake.
The lakes are especially famous for their healing mud properties. However, Mljet abounds in other cultural and natural wonders as well; the Isle of St Mary can be found in the middle of the lake with a 12th-century Benedictine monastery, roman ruins in Polače, archeological finds are present in the old island’s settlements, preserved forests of holm oak, Aleppo pine, protected wildlife, rich and diverse marine life, and more.
During the tour, walk around numerous shaded paths around the lakes, explore the island’s unique nature, and endemic plant species, rent a kayak or bike, use the local boat to visit the monastery, or simply immerse yourself in the captivating island ambiance.
Through this excursion, you will have a chance to discover the island’s cultural and historical heritage, legends of the past, rich flora and fauna along with its fascinating seashore, and most improbably the eternal beauty of this special place. Your local skipper will navigate you to the best spots on Mljet island and create an itinerary that will fit your wishes.
Hope you won’t just pay a visit but truly experience the special bond of sea, land, and the people that Mljet carefully cherishes and savors.
In case you are a history lover or you prefer to know even more about the touring area, we provide knowledgeable and experienced guides that accompany you on the excursion in order to bring you, as close as possible, the history, value, and the way of living on the islands.
